Jewish heritage

Budapest has the biggest Jewish community in Middle - Eastern Europe, with an active religious, artistic and historical heritage. Through centuries the Hungarian and Jewish history has been so entwined that it is almost inseparable. Jews played and play an important role in the country’s economical, cultural and political life.

Our company was created in 1995 and since then we try to show our visitors the Hungarian and Jewish culture in our country. Our English speaking guides are well trained, and have the necessary qualification to help you understand the Jewish past and present in Hungary and in Budapest. Our tours are in two (English and German) language, and we try to keep the sightseeing tours with small groups of people. To customize your needs we prepared three types of heritage tours.

Essential Tour (2,5 hours)

The Basic Jewish Heritage Tour

Those who are short of time can take our 2,5 hour Jewish Heritage Essential Tour. With the help of our English/German speaking guides you will be acquainted with the most important chapters of the history and culture of the Hungarian Jewry.

Your guide shows you the most important chapters of the Hungarian Jewry’s history and the Elizabethtown. Meanwhile we walk on the streets of the so-called Pest Jewish Quarter, we are going to explore the „status quo ante” Rumbach Street Synagogue (outside visit). As the highlight of the tour, we visit the Dohány Street Synagogue (interior visit), which is the largest in Europe and the second largest in the world. You also get a local guided tour in the Jewish Museum, where you get acquainted with the Hungarian Jewish heritage trough a unique collection of art pieces from Hungary and Eastern Europe, and the rich tradition of Judaism, its holidays and everyday life. A separate room commemorates the Hungarian Holocaust. Beside these we visit the Martyrs’ Cemetery,  the Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Park with the Tree of Life and the Heroes' Temple (outside visit).  After the tour it is possible to visit the Jewish Quarter Exhibition in the Goldmark Hall and the Family Research Center.

 Free date Gift Voucher

Give the gift of an unforgettable experience!

We give you the opportunity to surprise your loved ones with a wonderful experience by purchasing a free date ticket for them to use whenever they like.

It gets harder and harder to smile when we unwrap the umpteenth pair of socks or some other similarly unimaginative gift. Holidays, birthdays and anniversaries shouldn't be about hastily purchasing a predictable gift for our friends and family. In the past few decades studies have suggested that the joy one feels when receiving material presents, even if they are the long desired smart phone or a super expensive pair of designer shoes, doesn't last very long, especially when compared to experience gifts.

We offer you the opportunity to give the gift of our program that the recipient may enjoy at a time of his or her choosing within in a year. We request that ticket holders let us know a short time beforehand when we can expect them!
